Cory McIntosh, CGA, CAFM, CFP

Cory has been in public practice since January 1993. Working for Degruchy Norton & Co. from 1993 to 1994, Cory received his Certified General Accountant designation in 1996, before returning to the firm in October 1999. He became a partner in 2001 while also receiving his Certified Aboriginal Financial Management designation that same year. In 2004, Cory received his Certified Financial Planner designation as Degruchy Norton & Co. merged with Walters Williams & Co. to become McIntosh Norton Williams, CGAs.

As an active CGA member, Cory has taught the CGA Taxation 1 course, was a member of the CGA Education Advisory Group, and has received the J.M. MacBeth award from CGA BC for service to the Southern Vancouver Island Chapter in 1999. Currently, he serves as President of the District 69 Society of Organized Services.

His philosophy is to help clients plan for the future, to maximize their income; at the same time, he does his best to ensure his clients are well informed in making these decisions.

With his focus on small to medium-sized business, personal and corporate taxation, financial and estate planning, auditing and accounting, and tax for First Nations, Cory is able to help many people make informed decisions.

When he is not working, Cory enjoys spending time with his family. He is also a member of Pheasant Glen Golf Resort in Qualicum Beach where he became Mens Club Champion in 2003.

Jason Moore, BA, CGA

Jason earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1996 and finished an Associate in Commerce diploma in 1998 before starting as a junior accountant for Walters Williams & Co. in 1999. He received his Certified General Accountant designation in 2003 and continues on under McIntosh Norton Williams as a senior accountant.

His preferred areas of practice include personal and corporate income tax, integrated tax planning for small and medium sized owner-managed businesses, assurance and compilation engagements, and retirement planning.

Jason served as Treasurer of Oceanside Youth Football from 2000 to 2005 and continues to serve the community as Treasurer of Nanoose Place Activities & Recreation Society and Treasurer of the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Jay Norton, FCGA, CAFM

Jay has been employed in the accounting industry since 1973 with most of his time spent in public practice. His accounting experience is extensive and includes working his way up to a senior accountant position in a public practice firm in Campbell River from 1973 to 1980. He received his Certified General Accountant designation in 1982 while working for Barclay, Tarr, Walters & Co. (a predecessor of Walters Williams & Co.). From there he was the business manager of Trillium Lodge in Qualicum Beach before opening his own sole practice in 1984.

Jay joined what became Degruchy Norton & Co. in 1986 and in 1999 he received his Certified Aboriginal Financial Management designation. Finally, Jay helped lead the merger of our two firms into McIntosh Norton Williams, CGA in September, 2004.

In addition to all the responsibilities associated with being a partner, Jay specializes in auditing, First Nation auditing, First Nation taxation and assistance with and facilitating strategic management planning. He is also partner-in-charge of small-medium sized audits for municipalities, economic development corporations, long-term care facilities, First Nation related entities, and Not-for-Profit-Organizations. Additional responsibilities include partner-in-charge of review and compilation of financial statement files and related corporate income tax work; personal tax preparation and planning; tax planning related to First Nation entities and individuals; business plans and budgets; and facilitator for strategic management planning.

Along with his vast background in public practice, Jay also has provided widespread service to the CGA Association by serving on the Board of Governors from 1987 to 1997, serving as President of CGA-BC in 1994, serving as Chair of CGA-BC's Ethics Committee, serving as a member of the CGA Canada and Assembly of First Nations Working Group on First Nations Accountability, and continues to serve as a member of the Technical Advisory Group (AFOABC) for First Nation Financial Accounting in BC.

For all his dedication to the CGA Association, Jay has been honoured with a Fellowship CGA Canada in 1993 and granted a Life Member of CGA BC in 1998.

When not serving the CGA Association, Jay enjoys participating in Community Theatre and has been active with Theatre BC, Courtenay Little Theatre, E.C.H.O. Players and Bard to Broadway.

Jay continues to be active with Bard to Broadway and is also a public representative on the Board of Directors of the College of Massage Therapists of BC.

Michael K. Williams, CGA

Michael has over seventeen years of experience in public practice. He received his Certified General Accountant designation in 1995 and started working for Walters & Co. in 1998. In 1999 he became partner in Walters Williams & Co. and helped lead the McIntosh Norton Williams merger in September, 2004.

With a focus on small and medium businesses, including personal and corporate tax preparation and planning and business consulting, Michael believes that:

  • You cannot be everything to everybody. This is true for our clients. They have discovered something they are good at and have made it into a business. However, they cannot be expected to understand every aspect of their business, particularly, the financial side of it. That is where we come in. The same is true for us as well. We cannot be everything to everybody. This is why we have built up a network of expertise. People we can rely on to help us help our clients to succeed. Our purpose is to serve our clients and give them peace of mind about all aspects of their business and personal finances, so that they can concentrate on doing what they do best.

Michael has served as Treasurer of the Nanoose Bay Recreation Society, Director and Treasurer on the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce and, currently, is an active member of the Qualicum Beach Sunrise Rotary Club.
